I Wish We Met A Long Time Ago....

Penny: I wish we met each other a long time ago. When we were kids.
Dodge: It couldn't have happened any other way. It had to happen now.
Penny: But it isn't enough time--
Dodge: It never would have been.

- Seeking A Friend for the End of the World

It's that time of year where everything starts to quiet down. It's a beautiful time of year, where we end most nights with editing and egg nog. We have so many changes up our sleeve for 2013 and we are excitedly easing into the end of one year and the beginning of another.

As we hope to be more active here on the blog in the coming weeks, here is a sneak peek of what we have been working on...

A super adorable engagement session at Fearrington Village (like squeal with excitement kind of adorable!)

Coming Soon | Thiago & Axel's Parisian Wedding

Say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime. Say the word and I will follow you. Share each day with me, each night, each morning....

Love me. That's all I ask of you.

- Phantom of the Opera

Sometimes the pieces just fall together. Sometimes there are little snippets of wonder and romance and mystery that come together to make a wedding something magical. Something... epic.

That was the kind of day it was. The venetian masks, the carousel, the parisian theme decor, and the sweet sweet love - thats what surrounded Thiago & Axel on their wedding day.

Watch our teaser below to see for yourself....

Doctor Who & The Month of May

Ahh! The wedding! That's right, you're getting married! That's it! Best day of your life, walking down the aisle... Oh, your body's a battleground, there's a chemical war inside! Adrenaline, acetylcholine, wham go the endorphins! You're cooking! Yeah! You're like a walking oven, a press cooker, a microwave, all churning away; the buttons reach boiling point and Shazam!

Doctor Who

Since last weekend I photographed two weddings with brides and grooms who are avid fans of the Doctor, I thought a Doctor Who quote was applicable this week!

I realized at the end of April, how quickly May has just filled up! We get to do some pretty cool new things this month. I'm assisting two photographers on two out of state (VA & SC) weddings - holla!! We've got two senior sessions this month, with awesome peeps. And Brian and I are taking a day to get in front of the lens - we're getting our own photo shoot with the incredible Liz Grogan Photography.

It's a great start of the month already, and we kick off June with a wedding at The Grand Marquise with these two adorable people:

I'm excited!

Now, if you're following us on Facebook, you would have seen this week's sneak peek already. If you haven't though, stop over and like our page, stat!

Jessika & Kevin's Princton, North Carolina Wedding at The Gurley House.

Have a Happy Thursday!

Oh the Places We Will Go

Brian tells me all the time that I don't clean, I organize. And for all intents and purposes, he's right! I can't just wipe down the counter, I need to make sure my spices are in alphabetical order and my containers in a straight line. It's just what I do. It's not done if its disorganized!

Thankfully I'm the same way with my receipts and my wedding contracts, which are neatly organized by wedding date and bride name, in my adorable green filing box. That being said, I do take a periodic look through my files to make sure they're updated and I started to realize what great venues I will have the opportunity to photograph in the next few months. Here are just a few that I'm especially thrilled about!

1. Pine Lake Pavilion (Mebane, NC)

I love this venue! It's located next to a gorgeous lake, has this very amazing tent for the reception and is an overall beautiful location. I've had the opportunity to photograph there before, and am looking forward to going back to photograph an upcoming wedding there in April.

2. The Grand Marquis Ballroom (Raleigh, NC)

The Grand Marquise is exactly as it sounds. Elegant. Grand. Beautiful. I'll have the opportunity to visit this venue in June, and I look forward to using the grand structure of the ballroom for some very romantic photos.

3. The Hayloft (Mcleansville, NC)

The Hayloft is perfectly southern, perfectly North Carolina. It tugs at my inner Southern Belle and I can't wait to visit this gorgeous barn in July. I can only imagine what the bride & groom will do with this location!

Some other amazing venues I cannot wait to photograph someday include The Venue at East Front in Burlington, NC, The Arbors in Cleveland, NC, and Proximity Hotel in Greensboro, NC. I know any wedding held at any of those venues would be stunning, and I would be super excited and honored to be a part of that wedding. Fa reals!

Happy Planning you brides out there! Thanks for reading!

I Heart Faces | Best Face of 2011

I admit, I LOVE this week's I Heart Faces challenge. I mean faces?! I GOT face photos! It's like, what we're all about! So when I read this weeks challenge, a couple of amazing photos immediately popped into my head. It was very hard to decide on just one, but I kept coming back to this one from a wedding I second shot for J. Darren Photography. The look in her eye as she gazes into the camera and the beautiful color in her eyes, it's so gorgeous! I love this photo.

2011... In Review.

So if you were to compare 2010 to 2011 in nothing but numbers... I would have increased my weddings by 300% and doubled my sessions for the year and quadripulated my inquiries! YEAH! Fortunately, I don't really just use percentages and numbers to measure the growth of Faces in Focus Photography.  Besides, I really don't know what quadripulated means since I just made that up!

Okay so what do I really say about 2011? Honestly? Like whoa. It's been an amazing year! The people I've met, and the friends I've made have made this year so unbelievable. I've grown a lot as a photographer, and as a person. I didn't think I would fall in love with photography the way I have. Or meet as many incredible people.. I love every single part of this business. Yes, even the paying taxes and saving receipts part. Don't mock! I'm serious! It's a part of running this little business and to do it without failing miserably, well I call that success!

I can't wait for 2012. I love my brides & grooms that we have already booked and I cannot wait to make more friends this year. But before I start daydreaming about what's to come, I thought it would be a nice opportunity to recap all the incredible people I've met and photographed this year.

To all of you - thank you. I can't think of a single session this year that I haven't walked away from with a new friend. You made this year AMAZING and I cannot thank you enough.

With love,

The Venue at East Front

Last weekend, I was invited to an Open House at a new Burlington wedding venue - The Venue at East Front. Anna (who is super cute, love her already!) invited me to attend, and I was very glad I did. It's a beautiful venue and I think it's going to be very popular for our brides in Burlington and surrounding area!

I took a few photos of the venue - it is absolutely gorgeous!

Alamance Party Rentals decorated the Venue.

"I've never danced with him before."

That's what she told me, as we sat sipping lemonade at Panera, talking details about her upcoming August wedding. Maggie spoke of her father, lovingly speaking of her admiration for him.

One week before her wedding, he had a heart attack. It was scary for Maggie, for her friends, and her family. So how happy we all were to find out that her father not only was okay, but was still coming to celebrate Maggie & Mike's perfect day.

I know I personally loved meeting Maggie's father - he's quite the charmer, and SWEET as could be! Just like Maggie.

I'm so honored to see Maggie & her dad featured on The Thirty-Something Bride.

Lebanon, Virginia Wedding | Cherise & Stu

No one can really put into words how special the love between Cherise and Stu is. It radiates between them, exists in every glance, kiss, smile. They belong together, and everybody knows it. On September 24th, there closest friends and family got together to celebrate this amazing kind of love. They put together a wedding that, as Cherise puts it, was like a dream. A dream come true, of course. Much like their love.

Cherise - I've known you for a very long time. I've known your ups and downs, your awkward moments and your silly ones. And who you are right now? Well, you're simply gorgeous. I am so proud and so happy for you. Stu - you're her perfect match. You two should be together. I'm so glad you two fell in love with each other. Take good care of her. I know you will.

Thank you for letting Brian and I photograph your absolutely amazing wedding! Now sit down with a bag of Sour Patch Kids and enjoy... Love you both!... *Ariana*

Monday Randomness & A Sneak Peek

It's October. I mean seriously? It's October?! Why does time fly by so quickly?! This year is almost over and I still can't quite get over 2011. It's been an incredible few months! And I know, it's not over yet, but sometimes you just have to sit back and take a moment to think, "Awesomeness. Pure awesomeness."

Anywho, clearly I've had way too much fun this year, and it's making me delirious.

On another note, apparently I can't make coffee?! For some reason i can't quite get the proportions right and end up with, you guessed it, just water. Or some type of browny substance that DEFINITLY isn't coffee. Clearly, I've been spending way too much time working on my photography skills and not enough time on practicing my coffee-making. Who knew? I've even begun to question my efficiency in other mundance tasks of life - thawing chicken, cutting vegetables, boiling water. I mean if I can't make coffee now, what else could I have forgotten!

Yeah, I have issues. Thank goodness for Bojangles and Starbucks. Oh and microwaves.

Enough randomness. Here's what I'm off to finish working on...

Can't wait to post the rest of these photos on the blog! Tune in on Wednesday to see all the mountain-y goodness of Cherise & Stu's gorgeous wedding! Also, my Myrtle Beach pictures will be on the blog tomorrow, about a week too late than originally planned, but on the blog nevertheless!

G'day! (I'm Australian now. Don't judge.)

Burke Manor Inn Wedding | Maggie & Mike

He was a business owner. She was a yoga instructor. They were two people who may never had met had it not been for one thing - Maggie reached out to Mike, impressed by his smile, and his adorable bald head. For the next two years, they would come to understand just how much they were meant to be.

With him, Maggie was herself. And then some. She was the lace and pearls kind of girl, driving around in her mud-covered Jeep. She was strong, and weak. Mike accepted her as she was, told her what he felt and made sure she knew that no one in the world could replace her in his heart.

Maggie and Mike... I walked away from your wedding feeling as if I'd known you forever. Thank you for making me feel like a friend and guest. Both Brian and I enjoyed every minute of your day, knowing that love flowed in every direction. I hope you two have an absolutely incredible life together - you deserve it! And thank you for letting us see the kind of love that transcends everything - hurricanes and earthquakes included! :)
