Why 2015 Will Be Our Best Year Yet

Can I be totally honest with you right now? Seriously, most days I still feel like a newbie. No, really. A look at people online and think that I will never be that good or that well-branded or feel like I'll ever have my stuff together.

So when people ask me to talk about the knowledge I have, or admire tasks and projects I do, I'm usually like, "Wait. Who, me?" I'm so surprised and overwhelmed by the fact that I've somehow crossed the threshold - I'm not a newbie anymore, nor am I an expert either, and boy do I have a LONG way to go but hey... I've got something here, and it's working, and I'm learning and wow it's so weird and awesome all at once!

But that's why this year is going to be our best year yet. I'm finally settling into my strengths. I'm feeling more and more confident about what I do. So I've got a whole new set of goals for this upcoming year.

1. Embrace my strengths. Drop the weights.

Here's the deal. Marketing? I get it. I can even say I'm good at it. Accounting I'm also good at, BUT it takes up so much of my time and always leaves me overwhelmed and stressed. This year I'm determined to relieve the weights off my shoulders. So I'll be outsourcing the items that I put off or that stress me out, and putting the time I do have into the parts of the business that I love.

2. Focus on my craft.

I tend to put a lot of my time and effort into the backend. I find it safe sometimes, a way to feel like everything is is on track.

But that effort can come at a price. While I always push myself to do better at every session or wedding, there are areas of photography I've been dying to explore. This year, I'm going to strike a better balance between the backend and the craft. That will also go well with my first goal, since I'll be taking quite a bit off my plate to give myself time for the things I want to explore and learn about. I'm thinking this year, I might just take a photography class or go to a big trade show just for fun and to learn something.

3. Start my vlog.

I've been planning and writing and scheduling and talking about this for MONTHS. And the only thing standing in my way? Me. 100% me. I've procrastinated and put it off for far too long and I refuse to let that happen anymore. I fully intend to record and edit several about books, things that make me happy, and even videos about social media and branding on a segment I want to call #brandspankinawesome. This WILL happen!

So it's a new year with new goals and new expectations and I'm so excited to see what it brings. I'm learning so much, and even getting to teach others what I know and that's a beautiful experience that I can't wait to explore some more.

What are your goals for this year? Share them with me, and we'll make sure we spend this year helping each other reach them!
